Our Hawaiian Cultural Practices

Aloha!

The ‘Ilima Hotel believes in the importance of connecting hosts, guests and place in order to create a true appreciation for the Hawaiian culture and its primal role in the visitor experience on our islands. The ‘Ilima Hotel staff, or hosts as they are officially called, receive regular instruction in the Hawaiian values of ho’okipa (hospitality), lokahi (unity of purpose) and laulima (working together) through a series of cultural classes called Mohalapua ‘o ‘Ilima (The blossoming ‘Ilima flower). The name has a double meaning: In Hawai’i pua means flower but also, poetically, child. Hosts blossom mentally and spiritually like a flower but are also children of the land. We believe it is our kuleana (responsibility) to perpetuate and impart this knowledge to our family, friends and guests. Our vision, values and host characteristics guide our actions. Stay at the Ilima Hotel for affordable Waikiki hotel deals. Experience Hawaiian culture at its best.
